This small waterside town in the Aveiro district of Portugal, Murtosa sits within the Ria de Aveiro lagoon system, with water on multiple sides and vineyards in the surrounding area. The compact centre has cafés, restaurants, and a concentration of historic churches for a town of its size. The municipality, created in 1926, is split in two by the Canal de Ovar, and the broader region includes a UNESCO World Heritage site.
