Murghab

Tajikistan

The highest town in Tajikistan — and of the former Soviet Union — Murghab sits at extreme elevation in the Pamir Mountains of Gorno-Badakhshan, where the Pamir Highway crosses the Bartang river. It serves as the main hub in the eastern half of Gorno-Badakhshan, with the highway connecting north toward Kyrgyzstan and southwest to the regional capital Khorugh, while a road east crosses the Kulma Pass to China's Karakoram Highway.
