Mudgal, a town in Karnataka's Raichur district, is anchored by the remnants of a historic fort and a Jesuit-built Roman Catholic church dating to before 1557 — an unusual pairing in this part of southern India. The town also holds inscriptions from the Seuna Yadava dynasty of Devagiri and several ancient temples, including those dedicated to Aswathhanarayana, Venkatesha, Narasimha, and Didderayah.
