Muar — also known as Bandar Maharani, or Empress Town — is a royal city on the southern bank of the Muar River in Johor, Malaysia, with a walkable centre well regarded for its food, coffee, and prewar shophouse architecture. Declared the royal town of Johor in 2012, it draws visitors for its café culture and riverfront setting, and has received recognition as one of Southeast Asia's cleaner cities, winning the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Standard Award in both 2017 and 2022.
