Zambia's southernmost port on Lake Tanganyika, Mpulungu is the departure point for ferry connections across the lake to Tanzania, DR Congo, and Burundi — including the MV Liemba service to Kigoma and Kasanga. The town also functions as a fishing port and sits at the terminus of the old Great North Road, making it a crossroads for travellers moving between central and east Africa.
