This highland town in Zambia's Northern Province, Mporokoso sits on a plateau at high elevation within reach of several waterfalls, including Kapumo Falls a short distance to the south-west and Pule and Mumbuluma Falls on the Luangwa River. The town takes its name from Chief Mporokoso, a senior chief of the Bemba people, whose palace is located nearby at Chishamwamba. Lake Mweru Wantipa and Lake Tanganyika both lie within the broader region.
