Mossoró
Mossoró · Brazil
Mossoró hosts the Auto da Liberdade, Brazil's largest open-air theatrical performance, and the Mossoró Cidade Junina, one of the country's biggest June festivals, making this city in Rio Grande do Norte's interior a significant draw for annual events. The city also carries a history of firsts: it abolished slavery in 1883, five years before the national Lei Áurea, and recorded Brazil's first female vote. In 1927 it successfully resisted the bandit group led by Lampião.
