This hill town in Piedmont's Cuneo province with a compact, café-lined centre, a concentration of historic churches, and a position deep in the wine country of the Monregalese. The upper quarter of Piazza, the oldest part of town, sits on Monte Regale hill and is connected to the lower Breo district by a funicular railway reopened in 2006. The surrounding region is ringed by UNESCO World Heritage sites, and the Alps are visible from the higher parts of town.
