Milltown Malbay
Ireland
Compact County Clare village on Ireland's west coast, Milltown Malbay is best known for its week-long summer festival of traditional Irish music, held in memory of uilleann piper Willie Clancy, born here in 1918. The nearby headland of Spanish Point — named for the Spanish ships wrecked in the treacherous bay — offers Atlantic surf and beach. The town grew from around 1800 and carries a history shaped by famine, landlordism, and the struggle for Irish independence.
