Milledgeville
Baldwin County · United States
Georgia's former state capital from 1804 to 1868, Milledgeville sits on the Oconee River with a downtown grid modeled on Savannah and Washington, D.C. The preserved Milledgeville Historic District includes the Old State Capitol, and the city is also known as the former home of author Flannery O'Connor, whose residence Andalusia is open to visitors. Lake Sinclair adds a waterfront dimension to the town, which also hosts three colleges including Georgia College & State University.
