This town in eastern Slovakia on the shore of Lake Sirava, Michalovce is known for its adjacent lakes and volcanic mountains, which draw visitors to the area. The town sits close to the Ukrainian border, in the Košice Region, and takes its name from the Archangel St Michael. The wider region is ringed by UNESCO World Heritage sites, and the walkable centre has a dense food-and-drink scene alongside a concentration of historic churches.
