Mattawa

At the confluence of the Mattawa and Ottawa Rivers in northeastern Ontario, this small town sits where the waters meet — a name that reflects its Ojibwe origins. Samuel de Champlain and Étienne Brûlé were among the first Europeans to pass through, and the site retains that sense of a natural crossroads.
