Mananjary
Madagascar
A coastal town in eastern Madagascar where the Mananjary River meets the Indian Ocean, Mananjary sits at the edge of the Canal des Pangalanes, which divides the town in two. It has a pocket-sized port and airport, and serves as the regional centre for Vatovavy. In 2022, Cyclone Batsirai made landfall here and left the town largely destroyed, a fact that shapes the current reality of any visit.
