Makurdi
Nigeria
Makurdi, the capital of Benue State in central Nigeria, sits along the Benue River in a region known as the food basket of the nation, with agriculture shaping much of the city's character. Two bridges — a railway bridge dating to 1932 and a dual carriageway opened in 1978 — span the river, dividing the city between north and south banks. Visitors come for local cuisine, dance, and cultural events rather than resort-style accommodation.
