China Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region

Liuzhou

Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region · China

Karst peaks rise around Liuzhou, a large industrial city in north-central Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, with minority villages — Zhuang, Miao, Yao, and Dong among them — scattered through the surrounding countryside. The city traces its founding to 111 BCE and holds official recognition as a historic and cultural city. More than half its population belongs to ethnic minorities, giving it a cultural mix unusual for a city of its size. The Liu River runs through the centre, and the wider region serves as a practical base for exploring Guangxi.
