Lienz
Austria
A heritage-dense medieval town in East Tyrol, Austria, Lienz sits at the confluence of the Isel and Drau rivers with a well-preserved historic centre, an unusual concentration of churches, and a café scene substantial for its size. The administrative seat of the Lienz district since the Middle Ages — when it served as the principal residence of the Counts of Gorizia — it passed to Emperor Maximilian I in 1500 and was subsequently united with Tyrol.
