Lagos de Moreno
Lagos de Moreno · Mexico
Known as the "Athens of Jalisco" for the writers and poets born here, Lagos de Moreno is a city in the Los Altos de Jalisco region whose 17th-century architecture draws regular visitors. Founded in 1563 by the conquistador Hernando Martel, it grew into a cultural and economic hub, and by the 19th century had become a literary centre. The city also served as the site of the signing of two significant political agreements, both called the Convenios de Lagos.
