Kuldīga
Latvia
Kuldīga's old town earned UNESCO World Heritage status in 2023, making this pocket-sized Latvian town in the Kurzeme region one of the country's most historically significant. The Venta Rapid, a natural rapid on the Venta River, is the widest in Europe, and a brick bridge built in 1874 nearby is the longest of its kind in Europe. The Alekšupīte river runs through the old town centre, and its waterfall is the highest in Latvia. The town was one of the capitals of the Duchy of Courland in the 17th century and joined the Hanseatic League in 1368.
