Kuakata

Bangladesh

Kuakata, on the southernmost tip of Bangladesh, is the country's only beach from which both sunrise and sunset can be seen over the Bay of Bengal — a distinction that draws visitors to its long sandy shore on the Patuakhali coast. Known locally as Sagar Kannya (Daughter of the Sea), the beach takes its name from a well dug by Rakhine settlers who arrived here after being expelled from Arakan in 1784, and the town retains both Hindu and Buddhist communities today.
