Kossovo

Belarus

This tiny Belarusian village in Brest Region carries an outsized historical weight: it was the baptism site of Tadeusz Kościuszko, the Polish-American military leader, and the birthplace of Rabbi Avraham Yeshayahu Karelitz. The ruined Kosava Castle, built by the Pusłowski family in 1830, stands nearby, along with a replica of Kościuszko's childhood home in the neighbouring village of Mereczowszczyzna. The village sits on the Gryvda River in Ivatsevichy District, western Belarus.
