Kosovska Mitrovica
Kosovo
Divided by the Ibar River since 1999 into an Albanian-majority south and a Serb-majority north, Kosovska Mitrovica is a city in northern Kosovo with a walkable centre, a café and restaurant scene along the riverfront, and mountain views from the surrounding ranges of Kopaonik, Rogozna, Mokna, and Čičavica. First mentioned in the 17th century under Ottoman rule, the city has a long history shaped by Neolithic settlement, Roman metalworking, and the industrial-era Trepça mining complex.
