Kokkola's main draw is Neristan, a well-preserved old wooden town district on Finland's Gulf of Bothnia coast. The regional capital of Central Ostrobothnia, it is a bilingual Finnish-Swedish town that reached its 400th anniversary in 2020. The centre sits close to the water, with cafés and historic churches within walking distance of each other.
