Klerksdorp
South Africa
The oldest town in the western Transvaal, Klerksdorp served as the first capital of the Transvaal Republic and hosted the region's first stock exchange, growing into a trading hub linking Kimberley to Johannesburg. Today it functions as the economic, medical, and commercial centre of North West Province, with gold mining historically central to its identity and uranium production anticipated to grow in significance.
