Kenderes, a compact town in Hungary's Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county, is the birthplace of Miklós Horthy, Regent of the Kingdom of Hungary from 1920 to 1944. Horthy Castle is the town's main draw, housing exhibitions on his life and hosting an annual tribute on 18 June. Several memorials to Horthy are scattered around the town.
