A little Eastern Cape town at the eastern gateway to the Langkloof valley, where the R62 provincial road meets mountain terrain close to water. A Dutch Reformed church built from dressed sandstone dates to 1905, when the congregation was established here. The town's name derives from a Khoikhoi word meaning "road with many karee trees," and it serves as the administrative centre for the Kou-Kamma Municipality.
