Kandé, a compact town in northern Togo, is a base for visiting the Tata Somba — the traditional fortified earthen homesteads of the Tamberma people, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town sits close to mountains and within walking distance of water, and the Lamba language is widely spoken here. It is considered one of Togo's historic and tourist-oriented towns.
