Kalomo served as the first administrative capital of Northern Rhodesia before that role passed to Livingstone in 1907, and the Administrator's House from that era still stands in this southern Zambian town. Nearby, Kalundu Mound marks the site of a village occupied from at least the ninth century through the twelfth. The town is also home to the Namwianga Mission and sits on the main road and railway between Livingstone and Lusaka.
