Kalisz

Poland

One of Poland's oldest cities and a traditional capital of the Greater Poland region alongside Poznań, Kalisz sits on the Prosna river in central Poland with a walkable centre dense with historic churches and a lively café and restaurant scene. The city has served as a regional capital across successive Polish states since the Middle Ages, holds burial sites of Piast dynasty monarchs, and hosts long-running cultural events including a theatre festival founded in 1961 and an international jazz piano festival dating to 1974.
