Johor Bahru
Malaysia
Johor Bahru, the capital of Malaysia's Johor state, sits at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula directly across from Singapore, connected by the Johor-Singapore Causeway — one of the world's busiest land border crossings. The city has a dense café and restaurant scene, and its historic centre retains buildings from the modernisation era under Sultan Abu Bakar in the late 19th century. UMNO, a major Malaysian political party, was founded here at the Istana Besar in 1946.
