Jimma, the largest city in western Ethiopia, is home to the palace of Abba Jifar, a surviving remnant of the former Jimma kingdom. The city served as the historic capital of the Kaffa region and was once described as the leading market of western and southern Ethiopia, drawing tens of thousands of traders on a single market day. A university, museum, and airport make it a practical base for exploring the surrounding mountain landscape.
