Jansenville
South Africa
One of the world's major mohair-producing regions, Jansenville is a little town in the Eastern Cape's Karoo, sitting on the Sundays River south of Graaff-Reinet. Laid out in 1854 on the farm Vergenoegd and proclaimed the following year, it takes its name from Jan Willem Janssens, the last Batavian Governor of the Cape. The surrounding Kamdeboo landscape, with mountains close by, gives the town a rugged semi-arid setting.
