Iwye

Belarus

This pocket-sized Belarusian town in Grodno Oblast known as one of the historic centres of the Lipka Tatar minority, whose presence shaped the architecture of many local buildings. Iwye also carries a painful history as a formerly multicultural settlement with a Jewish majority, nearly all of whom were killed during the Holocaust. The town sits on the Ivyanka River and lies within reach of the wider region's UNESCO-listed heritage.
