This small city in southwestern Zeeland is built around entirely intact historic fortifications, making it one of the Netherlands' finest preserved examples of a vestingstad. Its main church has been voted the country's most beautiful, and the compact centre holds an unusual concentration of cafés and restaurants for a place its size. Hulst sits just a few kilometres from the Belgian border and promotes itself as the most Flemish city in the Netherlands.
