Vietnam's former imperial capital, Huế holds a UNESCO-listed complex of palaces, tombs, and temples from the Nguyễn dynasty, which ruled here from 1802 to 1945. The complex includes the Imperial City, the Forbidden Purple City, and a replica of the Royal Theater, all enclosed within moats and stone walls. The city sits on the water in central Vietnam, with a dense café and restaurant scene, and carries five separate UNESCO recognitions — covering architecture, court music, royal documents, and poetry inscribed on palace walls.
