High River
High River · Canada
This small Alberta town south of Calgary where the Highwood River runs through the centre, High River has a café and restaurant scene that punches above its size. Incorporated in 1906, it has long served as a ranching and wheat hub — cattle have grazed the surrounding land since 1880. The Canadian Pacific Railway arrived in 1892. Novelist W. O. Mitchell set several stories here, and former Prime Minister Joe Clark was born in the town.
