Hetauda sits at the eastern edge of the Chitwan Valley where the Chure hills meet the lowlands of central Nepal, making it a natural base for exploring the surrounding mountain scenery. The capital of Bagmati Province and administrative centre of Makwanpur District, it also serves as a major commercial and transport hub where the Mahendra Highway and Tribhuvan Rajpath converge, with UNESCO World Heritage sites in the wider region.
