Hengyang
China
Straddling the Xiang River at the foot of Mount Heng in central Hunan, Hengyang is a large city in southern China known historically as "Wild Goose City" — a name rooted in the tradition of southbound geese stopping to rest at Huiyan Peak, the first summit of Mount Heng. The city's ancient name was Hengzhou, and it sits at a major rail junction connecting routes south toward Guangdong and Guangxi. Several provincial universities are based here.
