Haute-Isle

France

Haute-Isle, a tiny commune in Val-d'Oise north of Paris, is home to the only church in Île-de-France carved entirely into a cliff face — one of just a handful in all of France. The village was almost entirely troglodytic until the 19th century, and sits on the water with scenic viewpoints nearby and a few places to eat for a settlement this size.
