A fishing village on the south coast of Newfoundland's Connaigre Peninsula, Harbour Breton sits at the edge of Fortune Bay with hilly terrain rising behind it — a combination that gives the settlement a strong visual character. Long the main centre on the peninsula, it absorbed many neighbouring communities during the 1960s resettlement era and remains the only administrative hub in Fortune Bay.
