A city immediately east of Seoul in Gyeonggi Province, Guri sits along the Han River and is home to the Royal Tombs of the Joseon Dynasty, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The hill of Achasan, which preserves the Baekje-era Achasanseong fortress, offers hiking trails, while walking paths follow Wang-suk-cheon creek along the city's eastern edge. A traditional market in the Doldari downtown area provides an alternative to modern shopping. Guri became an independent city in 1986.
