Guaqui
Bolivia
A lakeside port on Lake Titicaca, high in the Bolivian altiplano, Guaqui sits on the site of pre-Columbian Inca ruins — its current church built directly over the ancient remains. Once one of the lake's principal ports, it still operates a ferry connection to the Peruvian railhead at Puno, making it a crossing point between the two countries on one of South America's most storied bodies of water.
