Giethoorn
Netherlands
This Dutch village in Overijssel where canals serve as the main streets and more than 176 bridges — most privately owned — connect homes built on tiny islands. Known as the "Venice of the Netherlands," Giethoorn has no through road in its historic centre; the primary way to move through the village is by boat, with a shared cycling and walking path as the only land alternative. The village has an unusually dense café and restaurant scene for its size.
