Gaweinstal
Austria
A modest market village in Lower Austria's Weinviertel wine-growing region, Gaweinstal traces its origins to around 1050, making it one of the oldest settlements in the area. Originally called Gaunersdorf, it was renamed in 1917 and has been rebuilt repeatedly after wars and other disasters. Vineyards surround the village, and a handful of cafés and restaurants serve the local community.
