Garoua, capital of Cameroon's North Region, sits on the Benue River and serves as a hub for the country's textiles and cotton industries. The compact centre holds a concentration of cafés and restaurants, and the city is within walking distance of the river. Predominantly Fulbe in character, it ranks among the largest cities in Cameroon.
