George Sand made her home in this little village on the Creuse river in Indre, central France, and her house is now a listed historic monument. The village belongs to the Les Plus Beaux Villages de France association and holds several other protected buildings, including an 11th-century church and a castle with origins in the 13th and 14th centuries, set where the Gargilesse stream meets the Creuse.
