Fort Liard
Fort Liard · Canada
A small Dene community in Canada's Northwest Territories, Fort Liard — known in Slavey as Echaot'l Koe, meaning "people from the land of the giants" — sits on the water near mountain terrain close to the British Columbia border. Road access arrived only in 1984 with the completion of the Liard Highway, and the village retains a traditional craft store selling locally made goods alongside basic community services.
