Eskifjordur

Iceland

A pocket-sized fishing port on the north shore of its namesake fjord in eastern Iceland, Eskifjörður has been a trading post since the 18th century, when the Danish firm Örum and Wulff built a warehouse here in 1798. The East Iceland Maritime Museum now occupies a building the same company erected around 1816, tracing the fishing history of the East Fjords. Mountains rise close behind the waterfront village.
