Enugu

Enugu, the Igbo-language capital of Enugu State in southeastern Nigeria, grew from a coal-mining settlement founded in 1912 into one of the country's major cities. Its name derives from the Igbo words for "top of the hill," reflecting its elevated terrain. The city played a significant role in Nigerian history as the declared capital of Biafra in 1967, and today it functions as a regional hub with connections to Nigeria's Nollywood film industry.
