El Ostional
Rivas · Nicaragua
Small Pacific-coast village in southwestern Nicaragua, El Ostional sits on a crescent-shaped bay where artisanal fishing, turtle and dolphin watching, sport fishing, and birdwatching draw visitors to what remains a working rural community. The surrounding waters and mangroves that gave the village its name — El Ostion is Spanish for oyster — still support local fishermen, while the area near the Costa Rican border has also served as a filming location for multiple seasons of Survivor.
