Denshaw

A little Pennine village in Greater Manchester's Saddleworth parish, Denshaw sits near the source of the River Tame and is known for its annual Whit Friday brass band contest. Built around a junction of five roads, it developed historically as a coaching stop, and the surrounding moorland shows evidence of Stone and Bronze Age settlement. The village name derives from Old Norse, and the area was historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire.
